Start with the way your audience reads
Hinglish does not have one universal written style. Your audience might prefer Hindi in Devanagari, Hindi written in Latin letters, or a mix with English words. Choose a starting convention before you caption the entire clip.
For a sentence like “Aaj we’re talking about lighting,” you could keep the whole line in Latin letters. For an audience that reads Hindi comfortably, “आज we’re talking about lighting” may feel more natural. The best choice is the one your viewers can follow without stopping to decode it.
Keep the switch that carries your voice
Do not translate every English phrase just to make the caption consistent. A language switch can be part of the joke, emphasis or rhythm. Read your captions aloud and compare them with the recording. If the sentence sounds like a different person, revise it.
Choose consistent spellings for recurring Hindi words in Latin script. “Kya” and “kya?” are easy to distinguish by punctuation; changing between “kya,” “kia” and “kyaa” within one clip creates unnecessary friction. Keep intentional emphasis, but avoid accidental variation.
Give AI a careful second pass
Treat an AI transcript as a first draft. Listen for names, places, borrowed English terms and words that change meaning with context. When speakers switch languages halfway through a sentence, compare that section with the audio again.
Correct the words before spending time on visual styling. A beautiful caption with the wrong name still needs fixing. Then split long sentences where the speaker naturally pauses, keeping phrases together when possible.
Preview on a small screen
Check that your chosen font displays Devanagari characters correctly, including vowel marks and combined characters. Test the actual export, because a font that looks right in a browser preview may render differently in a video.
